in the past year...

i moved to florida to be with someone i thought i could trust
and was told 2.5 months later that i had to leave. (and just a day after he had told me the engagement ring was coming...)

lost my apartment in cincinnati
had several financial problems arise indirectly from said "move"
lost a very dear friend to cancer
permanent injuries in a car accident that affects my daily life
had someone come into apartment via the window while i was sleeping and take my things
wreck my car and have no idea how i'm gonna get another one...

that's all i can really think of right now. i give up.

I'm not really sure what I'm gonna say... I know what I want/need to say but I'm not sure I have the courage.

I know I'm listening to some songs that make me wanna create in some beautiful way and never look back.
I'm tired of hiding. Tired of the push and pull. I want to be at peace. I want to tell the whole world what I've been through in the last year. I want you to see it and then erase it and take it all back. Looking back is just as hard as looking forward. Or maybe it's the other way around. I don't want attention or pity. I want justice and the kind of love you spoke of in the evenings on the porch.
Maybe it will all just wash away.

first art show last weekend.
awesome. met some really cool folks, had a lot of interest, got my name out, sold some prints.
massage is going okay... i'm building my clientele... hoping to make more money soon...
ran into the Bambino last week... he said i did awesome on my first "shoot"...
now waiting to hear back from him...waiting for the wedding season to begin.
i joined 'Give Back Cincinnati' and did my first charity event last weekend... it was amazing.
it's warm outside. :)

it has not been very sunny in the sunshine state lately.
and the blueish-green gulf is now spitting out snot green algae.

i am missing cincinnati.
probably b/c we've had 2 or 3 bad experiences at restaurants. and i've yet to make any friends.
i miss dewey's and myra's and udf ice cream. i wanna go to arthur's and sit out on the sparkly brick patio with a bloody mary. i wanna take a boat-ride on the river and grill out and be with friends. i wanna find old buildings and the different types of culture people bring to the mid-west so i can make photographs. i want to walk thru Ault Park and lay in the grass in the Garden of Old Roses.

Sometimes it feels like nothing can go the way it needs to.

Joe has been borrowing his uncle's truck until we can afford to get a cheap one on our own. We had planned on using certain monies from his bonus for a down payment until we had to use that for the uhaul rental and gas and a plane ticket for joe. That was all supposed to be paid for by the company.... still waiting on that. Big ugh.
So yesterday we had to put the truck in the shop and they said it would be 900 bucks to fix it. His uncle decided to "retire" the truck b/c it's not worth that much. Thanks for that.
Today, we have to find a truck for Joe so he can work. We don't have much to spare. It's gonna be a stressful day.

I hope we can find something cheap and Joe is able to get a small loan.

i wish you all could have seen the ocean i saw yesterday morning.
it was the most calm water i've ever seen. the most vibrant blue-ish green. the stuff i've only seen in photographs or postcards. i know i'm not living in paradise... it's just panama city beach. ;) but i can't imagine anything more beautiful at the moment.
i wish i'd had my camera, sorta.

things have been so strange the last few months. it was nice to feel peaceful and happy. simple happy... not complicated at all. i think that's what i'm gonna be searching for from now on.

We're moving to the beach!!!!

The Boy got a really good job offer down in Panama City Beach, FL... (the redneck riviera)... so we're signing on for a year and we're gonna see where it takes us. Probably rite back to Cincinnati... :)
We will be moving at the end of the month. Crazy!
I'll be taking the national board for massage therapy(and getting a job) and hopefully I'll be able to pursue photography on a regular basis.

This is our beach cottage we'll be living in. It's great and oh-so-close to the beach. It's really not even a block from the water. *giddy*
The area is called Sunnyside... it's the older part of town. Very neighborhood-ish. It's pretty much a dream of mine.

So, I'll be updating more, and probably adding another 'beach' blog for photos and news and such. Can't have too many blogs! Haha.

a while back i posted asking you to vote for some of my photos in a project called Capture Cincinnati. well, last week, i found out 3(!) of my photos made it into the book they published. out of 12,000 photos submitted... around 300 made it into the book. and i have THREE in there. :)

so, that an accomplishment, and super exciting.

Last nite we had the opportunity to spend the evening perusing some of Michael Wilson's greatest work. He's opening a new portrait studio in Cincinnati. The showing/silent auction was on the third floor of York Street Cafe, just across the river from our small city.
It was beautiful.
I've been a big fan of his work for a while. Not only his portraits of Over the Rhine, but pretty much everything he does. It's so inspring and timeless.
I would hope the same could be said about my photography one day.

The prisoners at Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center may have seen "Jailhouse Rock" a few too many times.

Hundreds of inmates at the prison in Cebu, Philippines, have taken to performing large-scale dance numbers to such classics as Michael Jackson's "Thriller," Queen's "Radio Gaga" and several songs from the "Sister Act" films to help pass the time while serving sentences or awaiting trial.

Lots o' stuff going on, folks.

The most important being my (labour of)love life. I sorta dis-like giving it the "most important" nomer... but admit it... you would too.
So, the boy I've always loved is on his way to Ohio. He'll be here in a week. 5 years of all this, and it's a week away. Finally.
Most of me looks at this as a "new" relationship. I'm trying not to get carried away with other thoughts and feelings that could possibly cause it to move to fast. I'm workin' on trust. I can't explain why I've let him break my heart so many times, and continue to give it a chance. I believe in whatever it is we have. I cannot help it. I can hear some folks saying, "what he's done to you is not love"... well, perhaps not. They're only decisions he made, and probably regrets. (love is never far from danger) But, I love him... so I have to decide if it's all worth taking a chance. And so far, he's doing a pretty good job at convincing me.
I hope for support from everyone. This is the hardest, happiest time.

Our family beach vacation is the week after next. We're pretty excited about that. I know I need a vacation pretty bad... with school and job searching and heart hurts and being broke all the damn time... I think I deserve some vacation. Can I get an amen?! :)

I recently purchased one of the sexiest little cameras you've ever laid eyes on. The Nikon D50. Don't be jealous. I'm really pleased with it so far... still learning how to work it, though. Hypothetical: would you think it weird if someone were to sleep with a electronic device such as a camera? ahem. An SLR camera.
Annnnyhoo. I'm a photographer. :)

I'm becoming scatter-brained as I sit here trying to write.

how are you?

it's been a little while.
mostly b/c i've been super busy with my new job(when you read that to yourself - you have to move your hips and shoulders in a dancing motion... my new job...see?) :)

anyhoo... i'm really digging it. and hopefully by the end of the summer it will be a little more challenging and rehab-ish. my co-worker has a degree in exercise phys. so i think we'll go well together. also, she's like my 3rd twin. (huh?) she's like 5 foot. i'm so jealous.
the doctors i work for are very nice. there is so much i can learn. i'm excited to see how this develops.
i have my first massage scheduled on tuesday on a lady who was in a car accident... hope it goes well!! and i've had a few folks ask when i'll be doing more. so, things are good there. which equals more money. and i'm happy with it the whole situation... i know that's rare.

i have something else going on... but i'm not sure i'm ready to talk about it. i just hope i have support from folks i value. i know it will be difficult, but it's so important to me. i'll let on a little more later. i'm happy with what's going on, though. some things are difficult to explain, and maybe they should just be left for what they are. i think it's finally a good thing.

my new drink is a bloody mary. i just went to the store and bought some mix and vodka. and limes. i hope i don't become an alcoholic. *clinky*

so, earlier this evening i had to drive the sister downtown for a benefit party. as i started to drive by Fountain Square, i noticed a kid holding a sign that read, "FREE HUGS". and then some folks video taping. he just kept walking around, holding up the sign. i wanted so badly to jump out of my car and see what he had to offer. who knows why they were doing it, but it moved me to a tear. and for some reason, i had the overwhelming feeling of being exactly where i'm supposed to be.

i'm not sure i could tell you about a time when life was better.

So, the new job is going swimmingly. I've always wanted to use that word in a sentence.
Anyhoo, I think I'm really gonna like it. The staff is really nice, the doctors are great, and most of the patients are pretty normal. I haven't started doing massage yet... pretty much just focused on getting trained and being able to run the therapy room w/o any problems as the girls I work with will be leaving in about a month. Eeesh. Speaking of, I really like them... they're around my age and we've gone out for foods a few times. Pretty cool.
Wearing scrubs hasn't quite been what I thought it would be. But that should change... they've ordered some a little more in my size. :) Then I don't have to walk around feeling like I'm playing dress up, and I'll finally get the respect I deserve. Haha. Kidding.

I really like helping people, and I'm looking forward to doing bodywork and helping them further.

Not much else has been going on. Except some good conversations.

However, I'm looking forward to next weekend... another OtR weekend. They're playing just down the road, so that's sweet. But what I'm really looking forward to is... MY SHANE! :) (that's yer shoutout, brother) I can't wait to see him... we'll probably pee our pants from laughing so hard and I can't wait!

i don't really have much to say. i don't think. but you never know until you start talking.
most of you know i'm job searching for a real job. i have one position in my sights i'm really hoping for. i interviewed on friday, so we'll see what happens.
i'm looking forward to getting a new camera in the next coupla months. a small purchase for now, and hopefully later a nice (d)SLR. i can't wait. i've grown out of the one i have, and i'm itching to expand and take it more seriously.

i did have an exceptional weekend. it was Over the Rhine season at Canal Street Tavern in Dayton. those apples - they're the greatest. we are blessed.
friday started out with bill and i picking up some coffee at Chuck Roast's house for the merch table. it's always neat to meet people who make a living doing something out of the ordinary. they make coffee - in their house.
so then we headed up to dayton, caught the band rite around sound-check time and was told they were covering R.E.M.'s The One I love. all i'm saying is, thank God bill had his ipod.
we met a lot of folks at Brixx for some dinner, lots of talks and good laughs there.
and then headed down to CST.
what an amazing show. truly one of the best i've seen. and i believe i'm on number 64. (holy smokes, that's a lot)
it was an amazing nite... that music is so deeply connected to my soul. i felt like i could stand up and praise them like it was sunday morning or something.
bill and i got back to my apt. around 3 a.m. sheesh.

early on saturday was spent getting food, flowers for karin, and since Kent was in town... going to the record store. Shake-It Records to be exact. i love that place.
we all met up at Thai 9 in Dayton... mmmm, sushi. fine food and fine folks to share it with.
we got in line rather early and froze our aces off. my friend Jeff joined us.
our friend Scott and fellow mercher hooked up me and bill with some ridiculously cool OtR memorabilia. what i'm saying is, i now have a gig poster that says Sudsy's on it. yeah, don't be jealous. jack pot.
saturday's show was really good as well. i found myself sitting there thinking, they're just too good to be playing this little bar. (however much i love that little bar)
they've made a tradition of giving away vintage vinyl albums. yours truly was part of the trivia and it was sufficiently embarassing. but really funny. i missed one of the questions about myself, but i got an OtR question rite. go me. :)
and then my name was actually tacked on to the end of Jack's Valentine. that Linford is so clever.
it was a really good show, and i'm sad for the folks who couldn't make it. Keith, Anna, Mich, etc. see you soon, tho.

two things.

I actually went to the hair cut place and got a real hair cut! Generally, I trim my own hair... but I was looking for something different. Bangs. Yes, bangs... long ones. They're nice... you can't tell much of a different when it's down, but when I put it up... look out! I like it. And you should too.

The other thing I wanted to mention was... the week before last, my friend Clinton invited me to one of his shows. He does concert poster art, and he's a freakin' genius. It was such a neat exhibit... I think there were 5 different artists there... including Powerhouse Factories(i think that's their title)... Wow. It's an incredible medium between (good)art and music. My two favourite things! Plus, he gave me a super cool Mountain Goats poster! I don't listen to them a ton, but poster is really kick-ace. So, go check out his stuff... it's also linked at the bottom of the page.

Hey, it's been a while.
And a lot has happened.

I feel the need to document my biggest acheivement of late. Most of you know... I passed the state medical board, and I'm now a licensed massage therapist. Lookin' for a job. However, I need to light a fire under my ace b/c I feel quite uncertain about how to go about things. I've got some folks giving me advice, though. Wish me luck.

Shortly after I found out about the boards, I got news that my grandma passed away. We knew it was coming, but that sure doesn't make it any easier. The funeral and such went well. I sure miss her. I wish I could see her smile again. I think that's how most people will remember her... with a smile. Wow, I'm sad rite now. ... I genetically inherited two things from my grandma. Wait, three things.
1. thick hair
2. my legs
3. some of my silly-ness
I have an amazing picture from her younger years to post... maybe later.

The Colts won the 'Bowl. How exciting is that?? We had a really great time watching it... kim/shawn, casie, our friend Eric and myself. Good times. Less alcohol next time! :)

Musically, I'm still on a Ryan Adams run. My personal cd dealer(Kent) recently found (used) 29 and Cold Roses. Pretty sweet. Also, I have the new Patty Griffin, Neko Case and some older stuff by Old Crow, Gillian, and Okkervil River.

I've listened to Ryan Adams for a while, but lately I've been listening to him a lot more. I guess I'm just in the mood for a dirty sound. You dig? (smile) I don't really want music that makes me feel better, just music that makes me feel. Music that gets down in the trenches with you and won't let you out until you cry a little. Or a lot. Music to drink to. Music that makes me want to do the things in which I feel alive. And leaves me questioning what I'm supposed to do with this life.

And I've tried to branch out from the usual 'chick singers' I listen to. Tom Waits, Ryan Adams, Cash, Okkervil River, Gillian Welch/David Rawlings, some Townes VanZandt, Cat Power, etc. Thanks to some friends of mine who have turned me on to the likes of Townes and Cat Power.
I'm so thankful for their writing. For the sounds of an acoustic guitar and a harmonica. It's perfect.

I absolutely hate when I feel like this.
I'll try to explain.

I fancy myself a creative person. You never know where the inspiration is gonna come from. For me, I think it builds up. Sometimes, it's in a moment. Mostly, it's just there... waiting.
Rite now... it's hovering. I don't know if I should take a photograph? I feel the need to write... which, I suppose, is why I'm journaling. Nothing is coming of it.

I could scream.

You'll have to forgive me if I say anything out of line.

It's 1:30 a.m. and they just left to be alone for the remainder of the nite.
So therefore, my mind has gone to wander about thoughts of you, and other things I am missing.
I was in the record store delivering some cds last week, and I found myself thinking of your musical tastes. Looking for t-shirts that would catch your eye. I saw a book that I wanted to tell you about, but in a second thought, I'm sure you already know about it. You were always teaching me. Art makes me think of you in the same way.
I miss you, if only for your friendship. And I can say that b/c you don't read these parts of the internet.

For the last month or two, I've had so many thoughts of needing to make a change. A change in myself. I don't laugh like I used to. I'm angry. I'm not doing the things that make me feel alive. I'm not keeping in touch with folks like I should. Truthfully, it seems I'm really good at keeping in touch with memories. And honestly, I just feel like I've lost something. Or several somethings. This is so much deeper than I'm leading on. I don't want to get serious, sad, or melancholy. I only feel the need to let someone know how I try to do the rite thing.
Some days I'm so lost and troubled. Is this normal? Will I ever grow up?

It seems most of the good things are so far away. I've always been someone who enjoys the little things in life. Sometimes I understand it might not seem that way, but it's true. I know rite now I need to make the effort to re-direct my focus.

Life is so simple if we can just let it be.

So I started rambling elsewhere tonite and thought... I should blog.

Let me first start out with, I'm not gonna date anymore. Ever. Again.
I really don't want to. This place(read: the world) is filled with weirdos and idiots.
I had started "seeing"(?) this fella and well, that's over now. He's one of "those" who only text messages and IM's. Forgive me, but I need a little more attention than that.
So then, I met this other guy... gave him my number. My apologies to the universe for complaining as this dude won't stop calling. 6 times in 2 days + some text messages. Oy.

Okay, new topic. I think I have tendonitis. Or perhaps medial epicondylitis. My forearm flexors are killing me, and I can't figure out what it is. But kylie, didn't you just graduate from a vigorous massage therapy program? Yeah. But there are so many possiblities. I've narrowed it down to the ulnar side of my arm. Very painful. I'll let you know.

One more thing. I was trying to get a picture of me and James. But he wasn't cooperating very well. I need to get rid of his cuddly little butt... any takers? He loves to snuggle, but can be very squirmy.

Which is frustrating...

Naked If I Want To...

So, the State Medical Board is in a matter of (5)days and I cannot concentrate on my studies for the life of me. What is my problem??
It could be:
that I'm going to see OtR tonite,
or b/c I'm sore from slipping rite off my feet onto my ace on the boat yesterday.
Maybe it's because I'm a tad worried about money
and preoccupied by scattered thoughts of things I miss.
Or it could be the laundry. And the chores.

I'm a tad worried, yet more confident about this one. I think my confidence comes from knowing I don't have to go to class anymore and deal with exams and such. If I don't pass it(knock on faux wood), I just have to retake it. But that prolongs job searching, and starting a career. So, here's hoping I pass it this time. I mean, it's only every muscle and physiological system of the body. Oh, and all the massage precedures too. That's not so bad. ;)

Ok, now I'm gonna study.

Bomb found in Norwood.
Just down the road from my apartment.
The interstate was shut down(as it was found underneath an overpass) on my way home from work this a.m. Traffic creeped for about 2.5 hours, and I was finally able to take the only exit available. I came home, turned on the news to hear that the Cinci bomb squad had disabled the "device".
I can't believe it was so close to where I live... who knows how serious it could have been, but I'm guessing some lives were saved. Thank God for that.
